5.0 earthquake on April 27 16:23 (GMT +7)
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 4:23 p.m. local time near Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, as a reported the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
According to preliminary data, the earthquake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 50 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the next few hours or minutes, as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or when other agencies release their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) which also listed the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.0.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many to be slight vibrations in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors could have been felt in Sukabumi (276,400 inhabitants) located 64 km from the epicenter, Cicurug (89,000 inhabitants) 80 km, Soreang (150,900 inhabitants) 82 km, Ciranjang-hilir (77,800 inhabitants) 83 km 88 km, Banjaran (165,000 inhabitants) 88 km, Caringin (91,800 inhabitants) 88 km, Padalarang (124,900 inhabitants) 94 km and Bandung (1,699,700 inhabitants) 98 km.
