The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Pennsylvania features Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel. The show opens June 17 and runs June 18, 19, and 24-26.
Voted Best Musical of the 20th Century by Time Magazine, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel is a musical theater giant. This haunting love story about a tragic anti-hero, and the wife and child he leaves behind, features some of the most powerful music ever written for the stage. Declared his favorite by composer Richard Rodgers, this magical and majestic classic embodies both the gray areas of life and the Golden Age of Broadway. Show stop numbers include American music stalwarts such as “If I Loved You” “You will never walk alone” and “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”.
“Originally opening on Broadway in April 1945, just five months before the end of World War II, Carousel served as a beautiful story of hope, loss and the power of love for an audience who, at the time, was still reeling from the enormous losses of the Second World War”, observed Justin Fortunato, artistic director of production at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. “With everything going on in the world today and the seemingly insurmountable darkness that can encroach, this show continues to be a place where audiences and performers are reminded that no one walks this life alone. Beauty, the loss and hope of this spectacle makes it an exhilarating experience in the theatre.
