Gilmour Academy to Celebrate 75th Anniversary with Outdoor Benefit Event on September 18

GATES MILLS, Ohio – Gilmour Academy has announced that it will celebrate its 75th anniversary with an outdoor event on campus on September 18.

The 75th anniversary celebration, to be held in a tent, is chaired by philanthropist Lorraine Dodero and will highlight the opening of the Lorraine and Bill Dodero Center for Performing Arts. The Dodero Center for Performing Arts opened on March 5, 2020, shortly before the pandemic put an end to most in-person activities.

The Doderos donated $ 5 million toward the construction of the $ 10 million center, built at the south end of the Gilmour campus, 2045 SOM Center Road. Since its opening, the Performing Arts Center has hosted three productions.

The September 18 event will feature dinner, cocktails, entertainment, and silent and live auctions. Host of the event will be Andy Baskin, host of sports talk show on 92.3 The Fan, and Sara Shookman, presenter of WKYC TV. All proceeds will be used to fund Gilmour’s Tuition Assistance Program, student services and academic programming.

Gilmour Academy opened in 1946 as a Catholic high school for boys. Today it is a mixed, Catholic, independent school which educates students from 18 months to 18 years old. Over the years, the school’s campus has evolved and transformed dramatically, with the Lorraine and Bill Dodero Performing Arts Center being its latest addition.

“I look forward to celebrating the past 75 years of Holy Cross education at Gilmour Academy, as well as the bright future of the school,” said school principal Kathy Kenny. “Proceeds from this special event will ensure that current and future generations of Gilmour students continue to enjoy the benefits of the ‘Gilmour experience’.

“I can’t think of a better way to honor our Holy Cross Foundation and all on whose shoulders this school has been built over the past 75 years.”
