Santander Arena and Performing Arts Center conclude record 20th anniversary

ASM Global Managed Santander Arena (located at 700 Penn Street) and Santander Performing Arts Center (located at 136 North 6th Street) wrapped up their 20th anniversary season on June 30, 2022, reporting the second best financial year in the history of the sites.

In fiscal year 2021-22 (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022), both sites achieved gross profit for the first time in four years, exceeding their budgeted loss for operations in 2021-22. The Santander Arena and Santander Performing Arts Center hosted a combined total of 282 events during the 20th anniversary, with 153 events held in the arena and 129 events in the theatre. The sites recorded check-in metric numbers in several categories, including amusement tax for the town of Reading and parking revenue generated by the Reading Parking Authority, which were almost double the previous highest total set in 2017-2018.

Managing Director David Farrar explained: “Coming out of COVID, we faced many challenges, and our staff met all of those challenges head-on. This year’s record results are the result of the hard work and dedication of our teams. None of this would be possible without our great promoter partners, the artists, the community of Berks County and beyond who came out and supported concerts, Broadway, Reading Royals hockey games and various events throughout the year to help us reach these incredible milestones.

BCCCA Chairman of the Board, Michael Gombar Jr., spoke of the success of both sites over the past year, saying, “We are very fortunate to have received much-needed support from Berks County and of the city of Reading to survive the COVID shutdown. . Without it, we may not even celebrate the achievements of the past year. It is therefore very special to announce these results now and to confirm that the hard work, sacrifices and help of everyone involved were worth it. But, most importantly, we are grateful to the entire Berks County community for embracing the #gotoashow experience at our 2 locations and supporting our diverse lineup of music, arts, and entertainment!”

With the record year behind the Santander Arena and the Santander Performing Arts Center, attention turns to the future as the fall and winter season is fast approaching. The Santander Performing Arts Center recently announced its 2022-2023 season on Broadway featuring Legally Blonde, Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray and more. Santander Arena is planning another great series of events this fall with Walker Hayes (limited tickets remaining), Trey Anastasio Band and Goose (SOLD OUT), Gabriel Iglesias, MercyME, the return of Jeff Dunham and the arrival of our most requested artist of all time, Daddy Yankee in December. “2022 has started well for our venues with a huge run of shows in August. We are excited to maintain the momentum of our 21st season as we continue to bring diverse and unique entertainment to Berks County. We’ve got a ton of great shows already announced and more to come in the coming weeks, so be sure to stay tuned to our social media for these exciting additions. explained chief marketing officer Matt Christine.
