The world-renowned Shen Yun Performing Arts will visit the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on Tuesday.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a classical Chinese dance company. Its mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture – much of which was lost when communism took over the nation, according to a press release.
In Chinese, Shen Yun means “the beauty of celestial beings dancing”.
Shen Yun is a performance of classical Chinese dance, its trademark, as well as a range of traditional Chinese ethnic and folk dances, bel canto solos and an orchestra blending Eastern and Western traditions.
It showcases a cultural heritage with thousands of years of history, brings heartwarming stories that will uplift and healthy, positive role models on stage with 3D digital backgrounds that extend the scene and transport us to a world where the sky and the earth are one, declares the output.
Classical Chinese dance training consists of three main elements: technical skills, form and bearing. High-level classical Chinese dance techniques like flips, spins, and tumbling are incredibly demanding.
In the West, people are familiar with ballet, but classical Chinese dance is another dance form with a long history that only recently burst onto the world stage. Shen Yun dancers and musicians are trained at FeiTian College in New York.
“Along with ballet, it is also one of the most comprehensive dance systems known to mankind,” according to the press release.
“Classical Chinese dance movements are rich in their ability to express a variety of feelings, be it happiness, grief, joy, anger, sorrow, pleasure, emotions that accompany separation and reunion , madness, infatuation, disease, drunkenness, solemnity, ignobility, majesty, as well as civil, military and other personalities and histories,” reads the website www.shenyun.org
Tickets for this show range from $80 to $150 (plus taxes and fees), depending on seating, and are available online at www.buddyhollyhall.com
